Drawing The Lost To Christ
ICM
In a country where communism is still alive and well, and the people suffer from oppression, division, and exploitation, a local church in a remote area is bringing hope to its community.
An ICM partner describes the area, “There has always been the highest rate of poverty in the nation, limited electricity, lack of schools, and health care services.” People struggle with social problems like drug addiction, HIV/AIDS, and prostitution. Shaped by a violent past and deeply loyal to the worship of ancestors, over half the population adhere to Buddhist beliefs.
“The church became a valuable tool — an instrument in God’s hands to welcome people and draw them to Christ.”
But in 1992, amid difficulties, a small group of people decided to worship the Lord instead. They met in private houses and allowed God’s Word to change their lives. A spark of Christ’s light grew into a burning flame, and the church increased to 70 members.
By 2017, the group of Christians were praying for a building to call their church home, and ICM partnered with them to help fund the project. “God answered prayers and gave us a chance to build a chapel with the support from ICM,” says the partner. The new church building was dedicated in March of 2018.
While the believers continue to face intense hostility and persecution for their minority beliefs, and church meetings are under constant surveillance, the church building provides a stable and spacious place for the congregation to worship and fellowship.
“After the project finished,” the partner explains, “the church became a valuable tool for facilitating ministry––an instrument in God’s hands to welcome people and draw them to Christ.”
